Novel Approaches for Energy Management Strategies of Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Comparison with Conventional Solutions

Well-designed energy management strategies are essential for the good operation of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) in terms fuel economy and pollutant emissions reduction, regardless specific powertrain architecture. The goal this paper is to propose two innovative supervisory control HEVs derived from different optimization algorithms assess HEVs’ consumption reduction (compared conventional vehicles). These approaches literature modified by authors present novel problem. One based on Dynamic Programming (DP), here referred as Forward Approach (FADP) introduces a implementation DP achieve computational accuracy benefits. other Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy (ECMS) approach, it adapts latest driving conditions using information gathered finite-length backward-looking horizon. techniques used optimal power share between thermal engine battery parallel HEV. Their performances compared analysed achieved time with respect Pontryagin’s Minimum Principle (PMP) approaches.
